The mayor of Verl Michael Esken visited GFR

The Elbphilarmonie in Hamburg, one of the most stunning concert halls in the world, has been completed successfully. An enterprise from Verl has largely contributed to this construction of the century - GFR (Gesellschaft für Regelungstechnik und Energieeinsparung mbH) which is located in the Kapellenweg in Kaunitz. GFR provided the complete building automation for the Elbphilarmonie. Light, air, heat, technical equipment and a lot more are controlled and optimised with regard to energy consumption by the automation technology made in Kaunitz. The mayor of Verl, Michael Esken, and the new manager for business development in Verl, Sandra Claes, were impressed by the know-how of GFR which is one of the leading specialists in the building automation branch.

It is very important for mayor Esken to have a close contact to the domestic economy. Therefore he has visited small, mid-sized and large companies to find out which areas require attention since becoming mayor of Verl. The Managing Director of GFR, which presently has 280 employees, Volker Westerheide, informed Michael Esken and Sandra Claes that everything is running smoothly at the moment.

GFR, founded in 1978, develops and sells technologies, solutions and services for planning, constructing, running and optimising complete building automation systems which consist of sophisticated energy data management, technical building management, building and industry automation and room automation. GFR provides everything from a single source, from the planning, the implementation and optimisation to the operation of the building. Due to its 15 subsidiaries in Germany and Europe, the GFR specialists are always close to their customers and can take care of office buildings, hospitals, shopping centres, universities or hotels. The energy efficiency of buildings can be increased by 30 % and more by means of automation as GFR automates buildings and rooms in accordance with DIN EN 15232 (energy efficiency class A), EN 16484 and VDI 3813.
Reinhard Pollmeier (Sales) and his guests from the town hall went on a guided tour through the entire enterprise, visiting the different departments, where Esken and Claes could follow the complete way of a control cabinet from production to final acceptance. “We manufacture about 1000 control cabinets per year, some with standard configuration but many that are specifically tailored to customer requirements”, said Reinhard Pollmeier.

Highly qualified employees are searched for in the building automation branch. Therefore the acquisition, training and further qualification of suitable junior staff is very important. “Due to the high demand for specialists in the big enterprises, it is a bit more difficult for mid-sized companies like GFR to recruit suitable employees but if we succeed in arousing their interest, they are enthusiastic and stay with our company”, said Ellen Niediek, the department head of Marketing Services. “GFR also gained a lot of positive experience with the practice-oriented course of study”, added Ms. Niedieck. “ The Studienfond OWL scholarship could be another possibility“, suggested mayor Michael Esken. Using this program, the city of Verl supports two students.
