Max-Planck Institute Göttingen

Scientists research the solar system in Göttingen

As the name suggests, the scientific work of the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) focuses on the solar system with planets, moons and the sun. The institute is involved in missions of international space agencies such as NASA and ESA.

Inaugurated in 2014, the cutting-edge research building is located in the immediate vicinity of the University of Göttingen's North Campus. The new building includes workplaces for around 320 employees and space researchers, state-of-the-art clean rooms and laboratories, a nine-metre high balloon hall, workshops, library, lecture hall, day-care centre for children and guest apartments.
